Around Town

This is a growing, but not all-inclusive list, of some of my favorite places to eat out around Cincinnati. The first link is to my review for more information on what I enjoy at these restaurants.

Dewey's Pizza, multiple locations, website. Dewey's has great hand-tossed crust and plenty of toppings to choose from. At this family-friendly pizza place, children line the windows into the kitchen to watch the pizza being tossed and stretched. They also serve salads and calzones.

Mac's Pizza Pub, Clifton, website. Mac's is near the University of Cincinnati campus and offers a pizza with vegan cheese and a Five-Star Foodies veggie burger.

Myra's Dionysus, Clifton, website. Myra's is known for soup, offering eight each day. They also serve sandwiches, salads, and hummus and falafel. The menu clearly specifies which choices are vegan, and there are plenty of choices.

Cactus Pear, Cilfton and Blue Ash, website. Cactus Pear Southwestern Bistro isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. They serve vegetable fajitas and a tofu sandwich that are beyond ordinary.

Honey, Northside, website. Honey is one of my favorite nicer restaurants in town, but with a laid-back atmosphere and reasonable prices. They have a changing menu, but they have had at least one vegan entree each time I've visited.

MeltMeltMelt Brunch, Northside, website. Melt has a great Sunday Brunch menu, featuring vegan sausage and tofu scramble among other things. They also serve sandwiches, soups, and salads, featuring homemade seitan and cheezy sauce.

Indigo, Hyde Park, website. Indigo has an extensive menu with many vegetarian choices that can be modified to be vegan, including salads, pasta, pizza, calzones, and sandwiches.

Suzie Wong's, Walnut Hills, website. This is a nice Asian restaurant that has a great eggplant claypot, vegan faux ribs, and big soup bowls among other selections.

Loving HutLoving Cafe, Pleasant Ridge, website. Loving Hut (formerly Loving Cafe) is Cincinnati's only all-vegan restaurant. They have rotating specials that are always good, including soups, sandwiches, salads, and smoothies. They even have raw selections and raw desserts!

Emmanu, Pleasant Ridge, website. Emmanu is an East African restaurant with wonderful vegetables, including collards and lentils, served on injera.

Salt of the Earth, Madisonville. Both a restaurant and a gourmet grocery and wine shop, Salt of the Earth has a delicious vegetarian sandwich and a case of rotating vegetarian food items that can be eaten in the store, or carried out. They typically have one vegan soup selection, interesting side salads, and other vegan selections.

Claddagh Irish Pub, Newport, website. Claddagh is at Newport on the Levee and has a vegetable curry that I have come to crave, and a really good veggie burger as well.
